The Religion Communicators Council (RCC), the oldest public relations organization in the United States, recognized outstanding work done by its members in 2017.

The annual DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards are given annually to active members of the RCC who demonstrate excellence in religious communication and public relations.

News, feature, promotional and other materials in all forms of media – print, electronic and digital – with either local, regional or national reach, were recognized.

Winners were presented with Best in Class, Awards of Excellence and Awards of Merit during the DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia on April 5.

There were several multiple winners for Best in Class, the highest award category. Pathways Magazine, published by the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, won Best in Class for writing and in graphic design, art and photography.

The Bahá’í National Center won with its magazine, Brilliant Star, for periodicals, and with its public relations materials entry, The Bahá’ís – Contributing to an Emerging Global Civilization.

There was a tie in the public relations and advertising campaign segment between the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship with the Illumination Project and Women of the ELCA with their Gather Magazine Fundraising Appeal.

Other Best in Class winners were Presbyterian Church USA for Facing Racism in the single publications segment; Texas Impact for audio and video with Mainstream Not Extreme: People of Faith Reject Discriminatory Legislation in Texas; American Baptist Home Societies in digital media with 6,100 Miles, Seven Days: On the Road with ABHMS Disaster Response; and Robyn Lebron for specialized writing for her books, The Search for Peace in Times of Chaos, Volumes 1 & 2.

Excellence and merit awards were presented to groups as diverse as the Islamic Society of North America, Scientology Media Productions, National Catholic Reporter, Bread for the World and Samford University.
