Nashville Chapter hears about Habitat for Humanity messaging
Pam Campbell
Members of RCC’s Nashville Chapter learned Nov. 18 how Habitat for Humanity manages it messaging.
Pam Campbell, a chapter member, told fellow religion communicators how she handles that job from her Nashville office. She is media relations specialist for the organization and for Jonathan Reckford, its Atlanta-based chief executive.
Campbell said she was preparing material for Reckford to use in meetings with organizations and donors when he returns to the United States from Vietnam. He is there during November building homes along the Mekong River with some 2,500 volunteers—including former President Jimmy Carter.
Campbell noted that Habitat doesn’t give homes away. New residents pay for them as well as help build them. Payments are affordable because volunteers provide the labor.
Volunteers reach out to people who could not otherwise have afforded a home, Campbell said. Yet volunteers usually feel they are the greatest recipients of grace.
