Sixteen members of RCC's Nashville Chapter learned about public radio in the Music City Jan. 20.

WPLN News Director Anita Bugg and reporter Nina Cardona welcomed the religion communicators to the station, discussed kinds of stories RCC members might pitch to the news department and gave a tour of the broadcast facilities.

Operated by Nashville Public Radio, WPLN broadcasts on four frequencies: 1430 KHz AM, 90.3 MHz FM, HD 2 and HD 3. Translators in Cookeville and Tullahoma improve FM reception in parts of Middle Tennessee. The stations are affiliated with National Public Radio, Public Radio International and the British Broadcasting Corp. World Service.

WPLN-FM went on the air Dec. 17, 1960, as a service of the Nashville Public Library, a unit of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. The call letters represent Public Library Nashville.

In 1996 the radio license and station assets were transferred to Nashville Public Radio, an independent nonprofit corporation.
