Planning continues for 2011 RCC National Convention in Little Rock

As Religion Communication Congress 2010 closed April 10, planning moved into high gear for RCC's 2011 National Convention PDF file in Little Rock, Ark.

President Deb Christian appointed a committee April 11 from the Board of Governors to continue planning the March 31-April 2 meeting at the Comfort Inn & Suites Downtown. That committee is also to begin work on the 2012 national meeting.

Theme for next year's convention is "Communication Outside the Box." The convention program is to build on information covered in Chicago during Religion Communication Congress 2010 as well as recent RCC national conventions.

Since recent technological, economic and social trends have revolutionized communication and the religious environment, preliminary plans call for the convention program to include:

    • Dynamic speakers with insights on how to stay ahead of the cultural power curve.
    • Interactive workshops to build skills for future communication demands and help RCC members prepare for the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations. RCC is one of nine communication organizations that offer the APR credential.
    • Networking and fellowship.
    • DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards for communication excellence by RCC members during 2010.
    • Wilbur Awards for excellence by secular media during 2010 in communicating religious issues, values and themes.

The convention hotel is along Interstate 30, five miles from the Little Rock National Airport. Accommodations include free breakfast, free high-speed wireless access throughout the hotel and 42-inch flat-screen televisions in all rooms.
