Picnic and tour of Church of Scientology on May 19, 2010

sc_1.jpg    The RCC enjoyed a picnic lunch outside the Church of Scientology for May’s meeting.  It was a wonderful day for a picnic, just outside the historic Fall School Building that was recently renovated as Nashville's Church of Scientology.

In the business meeting, President Laura Flippen Tenzel discussed the 2011 annual meeting in Little Rock, AR.  The Nashville chapter is responsible for the selection of winner’s for the 2011 DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards and will be producing the awards ceremony.

President Flippen Tenzel thanked Mike Hickox for his work with RCC over the past years.  Mike will be missed as he is leaving for a new job in Virginia.  He was warned that he will be called on to continue helping the Nashville Chapter.

sc_bfesler.jpgIt was then onto voting for Nashville's 2010-2011 RCC Board.  Elected unanimously were: President, Laura Flippen Tenzel; Co-Vice Presidents for Programs, Carol Mansour and Rev. Brian Fesler; Treasurer, Harry Leake; Membership, Amelia Tucker-Shaw; Communications, Katie Shull.

Rev. Fesler next led the RCC through the Church of Scientology for a tour.

Everyone saw the public information center, two rooms devoted to educating the community on church practices and their involvement in the community.  They learned that Scientology is open to everyone—no matter race, color or creed.  Also, one doesn’t have to “convert” to Scientology.  Some who practice consider Scientology their only religion, whereas others still attend a different service on their Sabbath and come to the Church of Scientology for courses during the week to increase spirituality and happiness.

sc_2.jpg    Nashville's RCC next caught a glimpse of the course rooms and auditing rooms.  Auditing is the Scientology form o f spiritual counseling, and is accomplished generally in private sessions with a minister.  The group visited the chapel and bookstore, and appreciated this historic features preserved by the Church.  The tour ended with each member receiving a gift bag containing information about community activities the church is involved with.

In attendance were: Laura Flippen Tenzel, Brian Fesler, Carol Mansour, Royya James, Al Dittes, Mike Hickcox, Chelsea Sanchez, Katie Shull, Polly House, Jennifer Tramel and Julie Forney.
