Entries period for 2010 Wilbur Awards runs through Feb. 1

The Religion Communicators Council is now accepting entries for its 2010 Wilbur Awards competition.

The 2010 competition is open to works produced during 2009. Entry deadline is Feb. 1. Entry information is available online.

First given in 1949, the Wilbur Awards recognize the work of individuals in secular media who show excellence in communicating religious issues, values and themes. The award comes with a stained-glass trophy and a $250 check.

This annual competition is judged by media professionals in a jury process, under the supervision of local RCC members across the country.

While the ultimate criterion for the award is excellence in communicating religious values, judges consider content, creativity, execution and results. The competition allows participants to select from 22 different judging categories. They cover the broad range of today's communication vehicles.

The award is named for Marvin C. Wilbur, a pioneer in religious public relations and longtime RCC leader.
