The Religion Communicators Council (RCC) and its members promote excellence in the communication of religious faith and values in the public arena and encourage understanding among religious and faith groups on a national level. As testament to our goal of excellence are the Wilbur Awards. These awards recognize the work of individuals in the secular media who aspire to communicate about religious issues, values and themes with the utmost of professionalism, fairness and honesty.
The Wilbur Award, first given in 1960, honors Marvin C. Wilbur, a pioneer in the field of religious public relations. This highly regarded competition is judged by media professionals in a jury process, under the supervision of local RCC chapters across the country.
While the ultimate criteria for the award is excellence in the communication of religious values, the basic criteria include: content, creativity, execution and results. The structure of the competition allows you to select from 20 different categories that covers the broad range of today’s communication vehicles.
Please take a moment to consider your work from 2007 so you can begin to discern which of your work may be appropriate to enter. We wish you good luck and look forward to the opportunity of recognizing your outstanding accomplishments in the area of communicating religious issues and values.
The 2008 Wilbur Awards will be held April 5, 2008 during the RCC national convention in Washington DC. Each entry is $125.00.
