Teresa Tysinger, Director of Communications at First Presbyterian Church in Ft Worth, Texas offered the Dallas-Ft. Worth Chapter “5 Tips for a Successful Communications Ministry” at the recent June meeting.

  1. Know who you are and who you serve
  2. Recruit your “dream team”
  3. Adopt policies (but be flexible)
  4. Don’t reinvent the wheel
  5. Always strive to get better

July’s program will feature crisis communications preparation. Katherine Kerr, APR, president of Polaris Non-Profit Solutions and a member of RCC’s national Board, will present “Not ‘If’ but ‘When’” to help attendees prepare their organization to correctly handle communications in a crisis situation. July 21 is the date.

As a timely follow-up to the crisis topic, in August, Mark Wingfield, Associate Pastor with responsibilities for communications and outreach at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, will talk about the crisis situation Wilshire had to deal with when the church decided to support one of their members who was the fiancé of Thomas Duncan, the man who died from the Ebola virus. August 18 is the date.
