Dr. Patrick M. Beldio

Patrick Beldio

Patrick Beldio, Ph.D.

Patrick Beldio is a teacher, scholar, and artist. He has taught theology, religious studies, the history of sacred art and architecture, as well as studio art practice. He publishes research that focuses on comparative theology and religion, spiritual practice, and art.

His first book will be published later this year, entitled “Forming the New Creation: The Integral Yoga of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo in Art and Creativity.” It will examine these two important twentieth-century spiritual figures who communicated their teaching through the arts. Beldio’s own artwork seeks to serve the growth of diverse religious and spiritual communities, yet in a non-sectarian way.

He is a member of Sufism Reoriented, a small spiritual school founded by the spiritual teacher, Meher Baba. He has a Ph.D. in Religion and Culture from Catholic University, an M.F.A. in sculpture from George Washington University, and a B.F.A./B.A. in sculpture and philosophy from the University of Notre Dame.

His RCCongress 2020 workshop, titled Creating a Third Space: Communicating Across Religious and Cultural Boundaries Through the Arts, will focus on the limits and capabilities of the arts to communicate across cultural and religious spaces, creating what many scholars call a “third space” or a hybrid space where identities are more fluid, open, and creative, even as they are fearful, challenging, and uncomfortable.
